This deals with one incident only.
A black family hosts a mentally ill brother. In the later part of the day, the man exhibits significant increased levels of agitation. No one in the family responds to this. Why of Why not will muddy the waters.
Still later, the mentally ill man takes off his clothes and walks out into the cold weather and snow.
Reports have him yelling at people and the police. The police approace and the man spits repeatedlly at them. To this, the police put a hood over the mans head. The police then get him on the ground and hand cuff him. From this position the man can;t breathe and dies.
Here I take a wrong turn.
The faily knew the subjects disposition to erratic behaviour. Surely, they had some sense of what a build up looked like. Could they not have earlier in the deterioration process called in a med tech team with some kind of stabalizer and hav ethe poor man carried off to the ER and then into a mental health ward? Surely, a social worker coached the family in how to live with this person and his fragil personality.
Yes, the police failed that man. But, did not the family also fail? Come on! TV can't be that enthralling!
